Ever since placing an online clothing order a couple weeks ago, I’ve had this specific blog post in mind. Basically, I’d been staring at this one dress from Hot Topic for probably about a year, and figured I’d use my cousin’s upcoming wedding as an excuse to convince my mom to buy it for me. My incredible plan worked, only it was over $100 USD to ship it to Canada, so a combination of my love for both this dress and road trips gave me the idea to ship it to a US store (which is free), and invite some friends to tag along and pick it (as well as some other stuff) up.
The dress I'm obsessed with
The connection from a Hot Topic dress to this blog entry goes a little deeper though. It all started in the summer of 2017, in Glasgow, Scotland. Maeve and I were on our first Blyth trip (where we met), and Maeve was the overachiever she still is today. Despite traveling through two or more countries (depending on your definition of a country), and completing an entire high school credit over the span of two weeks, Maeve would stay up for hours each night (after doing all her homework) and write a detailed travel blog. Like really detailed. REALLY REALLY detailed. I had no idea this was happening at the time, which was probably for the best because I don’t know how I would have gotten anything done if I felt obligated to read these excruciatingly long entries.
I first found out about this blog on a mini road trip to “Buffalo” (really Niagara Falls, NY) in 2022. After being trapped indoors by COVID for two years, all I wanted to do was go to Target. Maeve kindly accompanied me, and we had a lovely time. When we got home, Maeve sent me the link to her travel journal and I tried my best to read it, but my god it was long! I did read some of it though, and got a taste of the amount of detail included. Then, as a joke, I created my own website, and wrote a travel blog about our trip to “Buffalo” in as much detail as I possibly could. Though this was a pretty great joke, I’m not sure it was worth the hours it took me. Today, that website has been lost to time, but you can still read the contents here, although I strongly advise against it, as it is one of the most boring pieces of writing to ever exist. Like it makes Maeve’s blog seem interesting.
This brings me back to going to Hot Topic, because upon deciding to drive to Buffalo (real Buffalo this time) I thought I would keep the joke going and write another crazy journal entry of our trip’s events. Luckily for you though, I won’t. I think it would be way too boring to proofread. Instead I will write a short list of everything we did:
Left home
Picked up Maeve
Picked up Tai
Drove to Niagara Falls, Ontario
Went to Rainforest Café
Drove across the border
Dealt with an incredibly rude border patrolman
Got to Hot Topic, tried on the dress and backup dress I had ordered, among other things
Returned both dresses because neither of them fit my boobs
Went to Target
Got Starbucks
Drove home
And here are some pictures from yesterday:
